Philanthropy at Alpha Phi
Red Dress Gala
In 2006, the Beta Omega chapter hosted its First Annual Red Dress Gala to raise money for the Alpha Phi Foundation. We continued the tradition in 2007 inviting parents, friends, alumnae, and leaders in the Greek community to gather in the newly renovated Kent State University Ballroom to enjoy appetizers, drinks, and desserts. The Kent State Jazz Ensemble provided a classic atmosphere for dining and dancing. Ladies of the Beta Omega chapter and gentlemen from fraternities at Kent State participated in a fashion show modeling clothing donated from Dillard’s. The silent auction featured prizes such as Longaberger baskets, Cleveland Cavaliers tickets, and more. Direct donations to the foundation and proceeds from the silent auction helped the Beta Omega chapter raised over $1000 to donate to the Alpha Phi Foundation. The Beta Omega chapter would like the thank everyone who supported this event and made it such a tremendous success.
Alpha Phi Grand Slam
The Beta Omega chapter held the first annual Alpha Phi Grand Slam in April of 2006. Members of all other Greek organizations on campus were invited to come “Hit Out Heart Disease” in the form of a softball-inspired event. The event included a homerun derby, longest softball throw, as well as a Mr. Alpha Phi competition. Donations of $1 were accepted by participants which then gave them the privilege of throwing a pie in the face of their favorite Alpha Phi. All of the proceeds went to the Alpha Phi Foundation.
We hosted our 2nd annual Grand Slam on September 29th, 2007. Members of other sororities and fraternities enjoyed friendly competition during our Homerun Derby and special congratulations go to the men of Delta Upsilon who won the tournament. Eric Bohr from Alpha Tau Omega was crowned Mr. Alpha Phi after answering a series of baseball and Alpha Phi related questions, designing a t-shirt, and creating a skit with their “coach”. A special “Thank You” goes out to all of the participants this year and to those who made donations to the Alpha Phi Foundation.
